Bowling Diary by Co-ordinator Alex Cumming
Sep-Oct-Nov 2005 On 24th and 25th September at Bodelwyddan Castle Hotel in North Wales, the British International Senior Championship took place between all four home countries and our own Alex Ross was chosen as one of Scotland's skips. I received a report from Team Manager Ian Stirling, who was delighted with the teams performance and his comments were "It was great to get back to winning ways after two years in the wilderness and the future for our seniors is very bright indeed". Scotland has now won the series four times out of seven. Our successful team was as follows -

Everyone at Bainfield wishes both girls the very best of luck on the day. __________________________ A few weeks ago Bainfield entertained Prestwick and won by 94 shots to 48, in one of the best games seen at the stadium for years. The delight shown on the faces of the Team Manager, John Bell, and selector Derek O'Connor was there for all to see. The rink scores were as follows
__________________________ On Saturday 22nd October Bainfield travelled to East Lothian and, after a brave show, only lost be 8 shots in another very high quality game. __________________________ On Saturday 12th November at Bainfield we entertained Paisley and after a tight game till the halfway stage we pulled away to a comfortable win by 102 shots to 70. __________________________ In the gents evening leagues four friends from the Edinburgh club joined Bainfield a couple of years ago, formed a team in Division 10 and are currently top of division 6 with 16 points out of 18. They are Bob Linton (skip), Falconer Mitchell, Charlie Skerrett and Brian Lockhart. I wish them well for the future. I must apologise to Willie McNair for omitting him from my last newsletter, naming all the bowlers who put in a power of work for the club. Willie who is a past president of the club and also a former singles champion, runs all the Sunday fun games throughout the summer season. He arrives about 10am to set everything up and does not get home until after the presentation of prizes about six o'clock in the evening. __________________________ The final of the men's two bowl pairs was played a few weeks ago and was won by Gavin smith & David Beeson who defeated Alan and Ian Mowat over 3 sets. The game was a cliff-hanger which went the full distance, as the Mowat twins were lying game when Gavin smith drew the winning shot. Congratulations to all four players for a brilliant game. __________________________ Bainfield Gents Senior Team Currently the over 60s seniors are third in the league below both East Lothian and Balbardie. The last four games - they have lost to Tweedbank away from home, lost to East Lothian at home. Won against Portobello home and away and won at West Lothian away. __________________________ The Scottish Team Championship at Headwell IBC Dunfermline
Bainfield win 6-2 against East Fife and go through to next round on 20th November. __________________________ The following Bainfield bowlers have been selected for Junior International Trials on Sunday 27th November at West of Scotland I.B.C:- Paul O'Donnell, Chris Stevens, Jamie Gracie, Colin Hutchison, Craig Moss __________________________ Other great news that came through is that Colin Mitchell has been selected for the Commonwealth Games Team. (Congratulations to all of the above). |
